I’m energized about Balcony Solar and am requesting a memo from City administration about what we can do to unlock this enormous cost-saving opportunity for renters and homeowners in Edmonton:
That Administration provide a memo outlining a pathway to expand balcony solar programs in Edmonton, drawing on successful frameworks utilized in Europe and Utah, as well as identify potential advocacy opportunities and available funding sources that could assist Edmontonians in mitigating energy uncertainty.
Balcony solar and other microgeneration opportunities are helping augment the electrification of communities around the world, and with one of the most favorable sunny climates, we should take note. Calgary Climate Hub co-chair, Dr. Joe Vipond, has shared that there are more than one million installations right now in Germany.
Kits offering 800 watts of power can provide one-third of a household's energy needs, say proponents. Major wholesalers such as Costco and Ikea have rigs ready to go, and prices continue to drop...
What’s driving this? Economics. Even the great oil and gas state of Texas just seized the Solar crown from California. Sadly, Instead of leaning into our affordability and diversification opportunity, Premier Smith continues to attack solar and opportunities for diversification that would safe us money and protect our energy independence.
Solar is on the rise around the world. We need to stop burning and start electrifying. As I wrote last week about the Elbows Up For Climate Initiative, we need nation building, not nation burning, initiatives.
We need nation building, not nation burning projects.
